The Tigers grab the series opener trimming the Mariners in Seattle

Jose Iglesias singled in two runs in the eighth inning as the Tigers upended the Mariners 3-2 at Safeco Field.  

John Hicks capitalized on a throwing error by Kyle Seager to score the other run for Detroit, which overcame a 2-0 deficit.  

Matthew Boyd struck out nine over six frames, but Warwick Saupold recorded one out in relief to get the win.  

The Tigers have won four of their last five games.

Nick Vincent was charged with the loss for Seattle.  

Guillermo Heredia went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Mariners, who dropped their second straight.
