Martin helps Tigers thump Boston at Fenway

A two-run homer by Leonys Martin capped a five-run first inning as the Tigers sunk the Red Sox 7-2 at Fenway Park.

John Hicks and Jose Iglesias each had two hits and two RBI as Detroit avoided a three-game sweep.  

Matt Boyd improved to 4-and-4, holding Boston to two runs in six-and-a-third innings.

Andrew Benintendi smashed a leadoff homer for Boston to give him four home runs in his last five games.

Jalen Beeks allowed six runs in four innings to lose his first big league start.  

The Tigers open a three-game weekend set against the Cleveland Indians tonight.

Michael Fulmer gets the start for Detroit, while Cleveland counters with Trevor Bauer.
