Williams allowed just a leadoff single to James McCann in the third inning while walking two and striking out five over seven innings to move to 5-and-4. Juan Nicasio fanned two in the ninth en route to his second save.
Francisco Cervelli doubled in a run in the second and John Jaso hit a two-run, pinch-hit homer in the seventh for Pittsburgh, which has won four-of-five. Jordan Zimmermann took the loss. Detroit has dropped three in-a-row.
