The Tigers avoided a three-game sweep by the Indians, pulling out a 5-3 win at Progressive Field. Alex Presley had two hits and drove in two, while Michael Fulmer improved to 9-and-6. Fulmer gave up two earned runs in six-plus innings.
Justin Wilson got five outs for his 10th save, throwing 34 pitches, the most in an outing for him this season. Detroit goes into the All-Star break at 39-and-48. Reliever Nick Goody took the loss for Cleveland.
Jose Ramirez connected for his 17th homer of the season, a two-run shot in the defeat. The Indians have a two-and-a-half game lead in the AL Central at 47-and-40.
The Tigers first game out of the All-Star break will be Friday at Comerica Park against the Jays.
