Three young women in Windsor-Essex have been recognized as the latest recipients of the Athena Scholarship.
The $5,000 scholarship award is given to women who are involved in their community, have leadership aspirations, have academic excellence and inspire other women to reach their full potential.
This is the 20th year for the scholarship.
The three recipients are Katherine Hirsch, Kiara Clement and Jessica Glazewski.
Katherine Hirsch, 24, was originally from North Carolina and came to Windsor two years ago to get her masters in Sports Psychology and plans to stay here afterwards.
"The opportunities that are here in Windsor, especially being so close to Detroit as well, there are lots of different sport programs at the youth level and all the way to the professional level, so it is a very unique opportunity as well as the different universities to teach at," she says.
She is also the co-founder of the Healthy Body Image Program to help young female athletes develop a positive image of their bodies.
