The three people involved in a serious crash on Hwy. 401 just west of Comber are lucky to be alive.
OPP Constable Jim Root called the crash "horrific" and adds, "I think considering the injuries, the parties involved are very lucky."
Police say a tractor trailer, pickup truck and small passenger vehicle collided in the westbound lanes just west of Hwy. 77 exit shortly after 4:30pm on Monday.
Root says the woman driving the car suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and has been taken to hospital. The male drivers of the tractor trailer and the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.
A cause for the crash hasn't been determined at this point, but Root isn't blaming the weather.
"I don't think road conditions or the weather was a factor, but the investigation is ongoing and we don't have the reason for the crash," says Root. "But, I think we can always say slow down, be aware of your surroundings and drive carefully."
The eastbound lanes were reduced to two lanes while investigators were on scene, but those were reopened befor 7pm. The westbound lanes were reopened around 10:30pm.
