The Windsor Police Services Board has officially begun its search for a new leader.
It has posted the job for a new police chief, advertising it across the country in a national law enforcement magazine, the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.
Board Chair Mayor Drew Dilkens says the board is looking for the best candidate, internally or externally, male or female.
"The whole goal is to look for the best chief possible and we did this last time as well," says Mayor Dilkens. "We cast the net very very wide and we ended up with a local candidate who has done a great job for the Windsor Police Services so it is possible it will be a local candidate and it is possible that it would be someone outside of Windsor Police. We want the best chief."
Dilkens says the board has hired a recruitment firm to aid in the search.
"I think you need someone who is good in terms of morale building inside the organization, who sees the big picture and can respond accordingly to the needs of the board and also the needs of the organization. It is a fine balance, it is not an easy job for a chief of police."
Dilkens hopes to have an announcement by the end of the year.
