The City of Windsor spent close to $1-million in upgrades to the WFCU Centre preparing for this week's Memorial Cup.
There were upgrades to the boards and glass, updated flooring, a new dressing room and media platform were built, some areas were repainted and an extra entrance/exit off McHugh St. were built into the general parking lot to improve traffic flow.
Manager of the WFCU Centre and Arenas Ray Mensour says the facility is already a decade old and some of those projects were just regular maintenance.
But Mensour says once the Memorial Cup wraps up, the upgrades remain. "The legacy and its investment by the city into a city facility and we will have those projects and upgraded facilities for us to use for years to come."
In the final segment of a 5-part series 'Inside the Memorial Cup', AM800 news will look at the legacy that will be left behind when the Memorial Cup tournament wraps up. It airs today at 7:20am, 12:40pm and 5:50pm.
