A free family event full of Canadian pride is planned Sunday along Windsor’s riverfront.
The Great Canadian Riverfront will feature music, family fun, food, and a drone show.
People are being invited to wear their Canadian red and white colours to the event that will have a lineup of Canadian performers providing live music throughout the celebration.
Buck Twenty will be playing at 4 p.m., followed by Ultrasonik at 6 p.m. and The S’Aints at 8 p.m., who will take the stage for a high-energy performance leading into O’ Canada.
The night will be capped off with a drone show over the Detroit River, presented by LiUNA!625 at 9:15 p.m.
Commissioner of Community Services Michael Chantler says the drone show is going to be all about Canadian pride with unmistakable Canadian imagery.
“It’s a well-guarded secret what it’s going to look like, but this is where they fire up 400 drones; they move in a synchronized fashion. They just move from one image smoothly into the next image,” he says.
Chantler says there will be a chance for kids to make t-shirts.
“There’s going to be the Great Canadian Tee Studio set up, so kids can go in there and design their own Canadian-inspired tee shirt. That activity is also free as long as supplies are there, so get there quick while supplies last,” he says.
The event will also have food trucks, Canadian brews and beverages, lawn games, and activities for all ages.
The whole celebration runs from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Dieppe Gardens at 78 Riverside Drive West, not far from the foot of Ouellette Avenue.
There is free parking at all downtown street meters on Sunday.
