The Deputy Mayor's position is on the agenda tonight at Essex council.
The town is trying to decide if the Deputy Mayor should be elected at large or appointed, as is currently the case.
Councillor Sherry Bondy wants the position on the ballot in time for the 2018 election. "The next move is to is present ideas to the public and see really what our public want to do because now that we're investigating this I'm hearing a lot of feedback from the public. A lot of them want us to retain our wards, some of them what us to get rid of our wards and others want us to keep it status quo, so there's so many options out there for us."
Bondy feels "it's time for a shake up." I absolutely think that is vital to politics. That is such a big position. The deputy mayor fills in for the mayor and is also our voice at county council to not have that elected by our residents is actually a shame and I can't believe we've gone this long having it the way it is."
There's no rush to decide.
A final decision doesn't have to be made before the end of 2017.
