The President of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association of Canada sees the tentative deal with GM Canada as a game changer.
Flavio Volpe believes this is a huge moment for the auto sector in Canada and applauds both Unifor and GM Canada for reaching this agreement.
Volpe says Unifor's Jerry Dias doesn't get the credit he deserves for supporting the Canadian auto sector.
"There are a lot of us who were saying that was high-risk, high stress, but he secured exactly what we were looking for. which is a re-upping in the most important plant in the GM family and I think we heard we're back in the truck business," says Volpe.
Volpe adds "this will make a big difference as Canadian government officials reach out to global automakers to bring investment here, which has been a challenge in the past few years."
A tentative agreement was reached early Tuesday morning between General Motors and Unifor, avoiding a strike and cementing the automaker's foootprint in Canada for years to come.
