Tecumseh is moving to a virtual platform to hold its public consultation meetings.
Like many municipalities, Tecumseh is unable to gather people together to give input on public works and other projects due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council has agreed to move forward on a report showing virtual meetings will work until in person meetings return.
Director of Corporate Services and Town Clerk Laura Moy says there will be one huge benefit.
"We can have up to 300 participants in a meeting, which is quite an increase over our current council chambers capacity," she says.
Moy says delegation requests usually have to be made within seven days of the first published agenda and that will change with the virtual model.
"After the agenda is published then can request to be a delegation up to and including the day of the meeting at noon," added Moy.
The town still needs public input for its official plan this year and it's expected to be completed in the fall.
Director of Planning and Building Services Brian Hillman says the virtual meetings will be a big help.
"In addition we have other application matters coming forward as well so we're quite pleased to have this available as a path forward," he says.
Moy says there's an online form that can be used to sign up as a delegation or residents can call the clerk's office.
