The mayor of Tecumseh is expressing 'extreme disappointment' that door-to-door delivery will not return to town.
As part of key reforms to Canada Post, Ottawa announced Wednesday that it was ending a program to take away home mail delivery, but the 840,000 families who lost home delivery won't get it back.
Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara says some of the community mailboxes in his town aren't even accessible.
"I have got some of these new community boxes that are in areas that were never designed for them and they are a mess," he says.
He says there was a glimmer of hope when a government committee visited the area and asked for input.
"What is the sense of having government committees tour and ask recommendations and not abide by it," McNamara questions the effort of the consultations when this was the final outcome.
"I think the insult to injury more than anything, this was a botched up job prior to the 2015 election by the previous government and I think the intent was to throw these boxes up no matter if it was in a good place or a bad place."
In 2015, several communities across the region had door-to-door delivery replaced with community mailboxes.
