The mayor and deputy mayor of Tecumseh have been recognized for their long standing service.
During Tuesday's meeting, the MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh, Andrew Dowie, presented mayor Gary McNamara and deputy mayor Joe Bachetti for their work and service on council on behalf of Steve Clark, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing of Ontario.
The recognition awards were presented by Dowie and Nina Tangri, Ontario's Associate Minister of Housing.
Dowie thanked the two for the amount of work they have done for the Town of Tecumseh over the years.
Mayor McNamara and deputy mayor Bachetti have both served the people of Tecumseh for over 25 years.
Bachetti says he's had the privilege of working alongside mayor McNamara.
"Over those years I could say maybe two or three issues, or decisions that we disagreed on, or we voted in separate ways. We work as a team here and we're very proud of the work that we do here with our council members and foster the community and do the best that we can."
McNamara says a lot has happened over the course of his time on council.
"There's milestones and then there's obviously some issues that you wish you might have taken a different turn and so forth, but all-in-all it's been an experience that I'll always remember into the future."
The mayor adds that the community has been tremendous and has grown so much.
"But most importantly you do it for the right reason, and you do it for the greater good of the community. We've come a long way, when I was first elected into the Old Town of Tecumseh, I think our population was probably around 12,000. Combined now we're 25,000-26,000 and we're right at the cusp of really showing some tremendous growth."
Both the mayor and deputy mayor extended their deep gratitude to administration, town staff, and their fellow councillors, as well as to those in the Town of Tecumseh and their families.
