Ratepayers in Tecumseh are looking at a 2.2% property tax increase in 2018.
The draft budget was laid out to council on Tuesday.
The proposed increase would see another $38 added to the tax bill on a home assessed at $250,000. Including estimated county and school board rates, the increase is projected at about 4.3% or $99 on a $250,000 home.
Tecumseh CAO Tony Hadad says the proposed increase is coming in under the 3% projection part of the town's financial outlook.
"It's a reasonable reflection of the programs and services that are delivered at a level that our citizens expect," says Hadad.
Hadad says the main drivers of the increase are normal inflationary costs.
"Continuing to maintain programs and services at current levels, some minor enhancements and then routine increases — collective bargaining agreements that will take effect in the new year."
The budget presentation to council noted the portion of the town's funding coming from higher levels of government is on the decline.
Tecumseh CAO Tony Hadad says there's give and take, but hopes to see the cash when it comes to big projects like the town's Sportsplex expansion and Tecumseh Road mainstreet reconstruction.
"You know we have to recognize that provincial and federal budgets are being challenged no differently than municipalities," says Hadad. "However on programs that we're sharing, we're hoping that the partnering for infrastructure is going to be realized."
Budget deliberations are set for November 21 and — if needed — November 22. Budget adoption is scheduled for December 12.
