Voting opens Tuesday for residents of Ward 2 in Tecumseh.
A by-election is being held to replace Councillor Michael Rohrer who passed away suddenly in May.
A 'Meet the Candidates Night' was held Monday night at L'Essor High School.
Six candidates in all have their names on the ballot.
Bill Altenhof is one of those candidates and says he decided to run when the Rohrer Family contacted him.
"I love the area. I've been actively involved with the schools, the parish. The other big thing, which is quite important for me, was the engagement from the Rohrer Family where they asked me, "Would you please consider running?". I said sure. I think it's worth while to try to keep this place the best it can be."
Janet Harris is running as well and says it's important the town keeps moving forward.
"Serving for elected office is something I've always considered and the issues of this area really interest me. It's a beautiful community, but I think we have lots of opportunity and I'd like to be part of that team."
Marian Drouillard is a candidate and says she planned on running in the 2018 election.
"It's something that I've thought about for a long time and I knew that I would be retired at that time. Now, the opportunity came up, sadly, but I thought, "I think I have to do this. I think it's the right time and I think I'm the right person", and I thought that that was the best way for me to represent my community."
Jeremy Soulliere is running and says his skill set as a Tecumseh firefighter could be an asset.
"My hard work, dedication, been a firefighter for 10-plus years. So in doing that I've learned to think very quickly on my feet, adapt and overcome situations when they're going in the wrong direction and bring them back into the right. I love helping people and I think this position would really allow my skill set in that to do that."
Scott Shields has put his name in the running and says he'd be bringing previous experience on council to the table.
"I was on council, St. Clair Beach Council from 1988 until we amalgamated in 1999. It's a tragic circumstance that we're in with Mike Rohrer's sudden passing, but after some reflection I thought that I had a lot to offer and my experience would benefit the ward and the town."
Chris Carpenter is running as well and says he'd be perfect for the job.
"I'm very much in touch with what the families moving into the community are looking for, what drew them to the community in the first place and I do truly care about residents and their issues and I will continue knocking on doors and randomly bothering people because I think it's vital that as a councillor you stay connected to the community and continue to listen to those concerns."
Residents can vote via telephone or internet beginning Tuesday morning at 9am until October 14 at 8pm.
