A Tecumseh firm that installs industrial lighting has been fined $70,000 after a worker suffered critical injuries.
It relates to an industrial accident at a business on Sprucewood Ave. in February 2017.
Cybertech Controls and Electric entered a guilty plea for failing to train the worker properly about fall protection.
The worker had gone up to the ceiling of the facility more than 21 ft. in the air and wasn't wearing fall protection — he stepped out onto a suspended ceiling made of polystyrene panels and fell to the concrete floor below.
The Ministry of Labour found the worker had not been trained in fall protection, working at heights or the use of the lift device.
The court also imposed a 25% victim surcharge fine, making the total cost over $87,000.
