Dog owners in the Town of Tecumseh, make sure you have a licence for your pooch.
The town is canvassing door-to-door to ensure dog owners have a tag.
The Commissionaires of Ottawa have been contracted to do the survey and are expected to concentrate in the urbanized areas.
Christina Hebert is the town's Manager of Committee & Community Services.
She says the canvassing begins tomorrow.
"They will be going out mornings, evenings, weekends for about a five week period ending June 30th. They will be going door-to-door to dog owners that previously had dog records and have not renewed their dog tags for this year"
Hebert says the dog licensing program helps cover the cost of canine enforcement.
"It's intended to offset the cost associated with regulating and controlling dogs running at large, providing a dog catcher, maintaining the dog pound and it's also a way of identifying a dog that has either been captured, running at large, found, reported by a neighbour"
Hebert says for a neutered dog the cost of a license is $35 after April 1 and $20 up to the end of March.
She says the commissionaires will not be going to the doors of people who have already purchased a dog tag.
