The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear returns to the Motor City, May 31-June 2, 2019.
The event will feature the cars of the NTT IndyCar Series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli.
The first Detroit Grand Prix was in 1982 and it started as a Formula One race through the streets of downtown Detroit before moving to Belle Isle in 1992.
There are actually five races in all during the weekend on Belle Isle.
The second winningest driver ever on the Island is Jordan Taylor, a five-time winner in Detroit who races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series.
Taylor tells AM800 Sports it's hard to explain his success in Detroit.
"It's five wins and I think just executing the races have always gone our way and four of the five races have been with Wayne Taylor Racing which is a great team, he says. “It's a one pit-stop race for us so everything comes down to that one stop, so if you make a mistake with that and lose track position it's hard to make it up."
The 2019 event marks the 30th Grand Prix in Detroit's history.
Since the Grand Prix returned to Belle Isle in 2007, event organizers and contributing partners have made over $13.5 million in lasting improvements to the state owned park.
