"Unprecedented concessions" are on the table as talks continue at the Windsor Star.
The company, Postmedia, and the union bargained for three days this past week and more talks are scheduled for September.
Chair of the Joint Council of Unions Julie Kotsis, representing 180 Windsor Star workers, says the employer's proposed new benefits plan offers "decreased coverage and increased premiums" along with no pay increases.
Kotsis says this has never happened before.
"We have never been in a position where we have been asked for concessions to this magnitude. We know that Postmedia is struggling financially, but we don't believe that getting into these concessions is going to save the corporation."
She says employees are trying to stay positive.
"We are optimistic that we can get a deal that our members are able to live with, but we are certainly not going to give in for what the corporation is asking for."
The current contract expired December 31, 2016.
No strike vote has been taken.
