A political science professor at the University of Windsor is warning against putting too much weight into early election polls.
In recent provincial election surveys, the Conservatives are leading the polls over the Liberals and NDP.
"The Conservatives have been really making a lot of ground since 2015 and it has just been getting larger," said Lydia Miljan speaking on AM800's the Lynn Martin Show. "The spread between the Conservatives and Liberals has been increasing over time and the NDP has stayed stagnant and I think that's the big story."
Miljan says polls should be taken with a grain of salt as they are more useful in terms of a trend or direction instead of actual results.
"The problem with polls today is that we have very low response rates, so the whole science behind public opinion polling is that you are getting a representative sample and it is just more and more difficult for pollsters to get a representative sample."
She adds when it comes to the Ontario Liberals, the party's biggest challenge may be fatigue.
"It has been what is it, 16 years, so that is a long time in office and it is a very good run for the Liberals but nonetheless it is much more difficult for them to blame any of the problems on a previous government. Clearly all the problems we have today is of their making."
Miljan expects the main issues will be jobs, hydro rates and taxes.
The Ontario election is set for June 2018.
