Transition to Betterness will be coming together with the community to remember and honour David Scott Hunter with The Ride to Survive.
Hunter was a part of T2B for over 20 years, and four years ago he reignited and co-chaired The Ride to Survive alongside Rob Pula.
He was found dead in his sleep on the morning of June 30, and T2B will honour his memory by changing the name of the ride to 'The Ride to Survive - The David Scott Hunter Memorial Ride'.
The ride will take place on September 16.
Over the last three years alone, The Ride to Survive raised almost $600,000, which T2B says is a reflection of Hunter's leadership and commitment to the community. The money raised was distributed among Windsor-Essex, including purchasing 100 iPad's for those in the hospital to communicate with family during COVID-19, and money raised for more palliative room at Erie Shores HealthCare.
Amber Hunter, Executive Director of Transition to Betterness, says Dave was a force of nature.
"Dave was just such a champion for so many of the things that we do, but also this ride was his baby. So, we want to make sure we do him proud and continuing forward it will definitely be the David Scott Hunter Memorial Ride."
She adds that he had a goal for this year's ride.
"Dave's goal was 200 people this year at $200,000. So that's his goal, and we want to see that come to fruition. So anyone who would like to donate, or sign up, you can sign up individually, you can sign up as part of a team."
She says it will be an emotional day, but a great tribute to him.
"Do it for Dave. He wanted his goal to be seen, so we want those 200 people to come out, we want them to kind of support and be there in his memory. We've got lots of great ideas planned that he wanted to see through. It's going to be a great day, we're going to pay tribute to him."
She says everyone will be riding for Dave this year, and the years to come.
"He did a lot in the name of his father, and recently he had lost his brother and I know he said he was riding for his brother. And now we're all going to be riding for him this year, so, definitely a huge legacy project and we'll be really proud to see it through for our friend."
This year, the money raised will go towards more palliative rooms at Erie Shores HealthCare.
Dave Hunter was also nominated for the AFP National Philanthropy Day Award for Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer for his work with T2B and won.
