There is now a mayor's race in Amherstburg.
Glen Swinton has filed his nomination papers for the town's top job.
He has run in two previous elections for a council seat, but was not voted in.
Swinton says he has lived in Amherstburg for about 15 years, but also operates a business out of Windsor.
He tells AM800 News, he's been considering running for quite some time but one recent issue made his decision.
"The policing issue is certainly struck a bone and it's pushed me in the direction that brought me here, the whole way it was handled," says Swinton.
He feels change is needed in Amherstburg.
"The Town of Amherstburg is a corporation, it's a business," says Swinton. "It's in the business of collecting taxes and providing services and if you don't have that mind set, it makes it very difficult to focus on doing that job properly. So I'm kind of hoping by being the mayor, being the head of council we can re-direct from being more of a fashion model or a photo op to let's focus on the business and move this town forward."
He says he's not a fan with how the current council operates.
"I think that the focus of our current council, the strengthen of our current council kind of needs a revision," says Swinton. "As I watch how they handle certain aspects of what they deal with and how they're handling it, I find our mayor is not entirely operating as the head of council and I find that our council is kind of following a lead for the sake of ease."
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo is seeking re-election.
Current councillors Rick Fryer, Leo Meloche and Diana Pouget have also filed their nomination papers seeking the Deputy Mayor's seat.
They are up against Bob Rozankovic.
