Canadian employers are expressing some concerns about the impacts on the workplace from legalizing marijuana.
A survey of 680 human resource members found 71% of employers are not ready to ensure a safe workplace.
Speaking on AM800's the Afternoon News, Vice President of Public Relations for the Human Resources Professionals Association Scott Allison says employers want the tools to identify impairment which isn't currently available.
"Our members are looking for clarity and best practices in regards to seeking guidance from government guidelines," he says.
He points out a major problem is the lack of tools to accurately identify someone who is impaired by marijuana.
"That's where our members are sort of, this is their number one fear, that making sure safety doesn't decrease because we can't identify impairment for someone who has used recreational marijuana."
Allison predicts a lot of growing pains in 12 months after recreational marijuana becomes legal which is expected sometime this summer.
