The local labour community is offering support to strike workers at Motor City Chrysler in Windsor.
A rally was held at the dealership at Walker Rd. and Tecumseh Rd. with members of several unions on hand.
Unifor Local 195 represents the 60 workers, who hit the picket line January 31st. Union president John Toth says their biggest sticking point is a demand for concessions from the employer.
Toth says the dealership's General Manager was already given concessions in the last contract. "They've worked hard for three years to build this into one of the most successful dealerships in all of Canada. And three years later Jason Bray comes to the table and says to these members, 'it's not enough you have to give more.' More concessions, shame"
"General Manager Jason Bray won't get what he wants," says Toth. "When a successful employer in a robust economy comes to its workers and says we demand concessions, what do we say? 'No Way Jason Bray.' When one of the top five dealerships in all of Canada comes to it's employees and says you have to give up paid holidays for us to be successful, what do we say? 'No Way Jason Bray.'"
There have been no contract talks since mid-January.
Toth says the union has repeatedly reached out to the employer with no result.
