Officers say the suspect was wanted on an oustanding warrant and while placing him under arrest, the man fled down some stairs and grabbed a chair in an aggressive manner.
Police say the suspect, who was carrying a knife, continued to ignore commands and a taser was used to subdue him.
A 37-year-old is charged with disturbing a religious worship, escape lawful custody, resisting a peace officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
