Work began in October 2017

The President of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is responding to comments made by Windsor's mayor regarding the lack of communication and length of time it is taking to repair the tunnel.

Work on the ceiling began last October and was scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

On Monday, Mayor Drew Dilkens voiced concerns about the lack of communication from the U.S side of the tunnel which is managing the project and what exactly is taking so long.

Tunnel President Neal Belitsky tells AM800 News there will be 'substantial completion by the fall--by the end of October.'

He wouldn't expand on why renovations are taking so long.

As for the mayor's concerns about the lack of communication, Belitsky says 'no comment.'

The tunnel has been closed nightly from 8pm until 5:30am from Sunday to Thursday as part of the $20-million project.
