Officials in Tecumseh are pleased with the results of a year long traffic study.
Following complaints from residents, radar trailers were set up throughout the town to track vehicle speed.
Manager of Roads and Fleet, Kirby McArdle says, for the most part, drivers are staying within 10km/h of the posted speed limit.
McArdle says speeding is not a widespread problem in Tecumseh. "Just over 10km/h is not considered excessive. Although, to a person on the sidewalk or the side of the street, it could seem excessive. But what we're finding is, generally, the speed limit is set at 50km/h, which is the normal throughout Ontario. That would probably, in most cases, be acceptable here."
Lacasse Blvd., South Talbot Rd., Michael St. and Southfield Dr. were identified as four problem areas and McArdle says OPP will be keeping an eye on them. "The OPP are aware of them and we are in contact with them when we do these speed studies. We let them know what our findings are because we look into it and we ask for additional enforcement."
McArdle says the town has purchased a number of speed trailers and will continue to use them."It used to be that the OPP did share a speed trailer amongst the different OPP detachments. So we went out and we purchased some of these in consultation with Windsor and other manufacturers in other municipalities and what they have. So we've settled in on a couple trailers that we can move around quite easily and set up."
The traffic data was gathered at eleven locations in Tecumseh throughout 2017.
