A ceremony in the middle of the University of Windsor Campus has officially opened a huge public space for students.
The David A Wilson Commons spans the space between the Odette School of Business building and the medical school.
The former parking lot area now has green spaces as well as a basketball court and performance stage.
The retired accounting professor donated a million dollars toward this project and a nursing scholarship for the university.

Wilson says it only took him a weekend to decide to support the project after Dr. Alan Wildeman showed it to him.
"I tried to keep a poker face, he says I better not play poker" said Wilson "because right away it appealed to me and I came over immediately after a meeting with him, looked at the parking lot looked at what could be happening and I thought the campus needs this"

Wilson added: "the people who were behind it, the concept, the execution and so forth, they're brilliant. I don't know where they got all the ideas but this is perfect for the campus. If I were still a prof and giving out marks I'd give them an A plus, plus"
Former student and now university board chair Penny Allen says Wilson was an inspiration for her.
"he was a very great mentor and also and also a good person to emulate in terms of seeing that accounting is done and done properly" said Allen.
Wilson sees this as a major enhancement to student life on campus.
