Streetlighting on Banwell Road between Tecumseh Road East and E.C. Row will have to wait at least one more year.
Ward 7 councillor Irek Kusmierczyk asked council to bump up the installation of streetlights to this year instead of 2019 but his motion was rejected in a 5-5 tied, recorded vote.
Kusmierczyk says he was making the request due to safety concerns.
"Things like lighting should not be luxuries," says Kusmierczyk. "These are basics, theses are fundamentals and we're going to keep advocating for those whether it's Banwell Road or roads that have less traffic. This is basic infrastructure."

She was also calling on the installation of streetlights this year and says at night, drivers have a tough time finding the centre's driveway.
"We probably have 15 reflectors on each side of the driveway at both ends so it doesn't look attractive, I'm sorry, "says Adams. "I mean we're a long-term care home, we should have city lighting."
"The first time I approached council about it was 2015 when family council approached me stating they can't see the driveway when they come in at night, that they missed the driveway, could we do something about the driveway, could you fix the driveway," says Adams. "So we approached about if we could put in our own lights, it's city property so we can't do that."
The installation is now expected to take place in early 2019.
The price tag is $70,000.
