Essex-Windsor EMS is looking at how to best provide coverage to Stoney Point, Lighthouse Cove and Comber.
As it stands now, those communities are serviced by Chatham-Kent EMS as its Tilbury station is the closest in the area, but the future of that Tilbury station is unknown as there's a proposal on the table to move it elsewhere.
Essex-Windsor EMS Chief Bruce Krauter says this could potentially double response times from 10 to 20 minutes in those communities.
He says he's trying to be proactive.
"I'm more wanting to plan if a change happens with the municipality of Chatham-Kent with their EMS service in Tilbury," says Krauter. "I have to be prepared to make sure that Stoney Point, Lighthouse Cove and Comber are covered. So this could happen and there may be a financial impact."
He says it's important to get the conversation started.
"Nothing has been finalized and we're trying to get some meetings scheduled so we can talk and converse and so I can understand so that if it's a month down the road or two months down the road or six months down the road, at least then, I can prepare and plan because if there's finances we're not budgeted for that," says Krauter.
He says building a new station hasn't been discussed yet.
Krauter plans to meet with Chatham-Kent EMS to discuss the issue. He'll be suggesting the status quo.
