The people of Windsor love to read according to statistics released by the Windsor Public Library
1.1-million resources were borrowed in 2017.
The library also keeps track of the most popular books checked out during the year. "The Women in Cabin 10" by Ruth Ware tops the adult-fiction list, checked out 249 times. "The Whistler" by John Grisham and "The Couple Next Door" by Shari Lapena round out the top three.
CEO Kitty Pope says a couple of home town works also cracked the Top 10 in the non-fiction category. "The Best of Windsor Cook Book, I love that book, was our third most read non-fiction this year. The second volume of From the Vault, which of course is Windsor history, was the seventh most read adult non-fiction book in Windsor last year."
"Science also continues to peak the interest of Windsor's youth," says Pope. "Windsor kids love science. Our study guides, whether they're how to make a volcano or how to make your bike sound like a locomotive, those books continue to be really popular. Along with Harry Potter, Harry Potter continues to be our third and fourth and fifth most popular titles."
Pope says the use of multimedia and technology continues to grow at Windsor's public libraries. "The Secret Life of Pets, the hilarious DVD, it was our most borrowed DVD last year. That was followed by some exciting adult classics like Jason Bourne [The Bourne Identity] and Sully. They were really big borrowers as well, but it was definitely the Disney classics that were the most popular."
The top three eBook downloads were "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins, downloaded 202 times. "Rogue Lawyer" by John Grisham was downloaded 138 while "The Escape" by David Baldacci rounds out the top three with 134 downloads.
An estimated 750,000 people visited Windsor's public libraries in 2017.
