The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society is asking for the public's help after a 4-year-old pitbull type dog was found starved to death.
Executive Director Melanie Coulter says the humane society is looking to track down the owner of the dog or anyone with information.
She says the dog's body was found late Wednesday night in an abandoned building at the corner of Louis and Catarqui.
"The concern is that this dog was starved over a period of at least weeks and his body was placed there likely in an effort to hide what happened so we're hoping that someone recognizes the dog, recognizes the situation and comes forward with some information," says Coulter.
Coulter says the vet indicated the dog was starved to death over a period of many weeks.
She says it's believed the dog likely died at another location and his body was disposed of in the location where he was found.
The dog was an unneutered male, medium sized dog.
He was wearing a choke chain collar.
Anyone with information is asked to call the humane society or Crime Stoppers.
