It's the 'passing of the torch' at the Valiant Training and Development Centre.
St. Clair College is taking over management of the centre on St. Etienne Ave which has been open since 2008.
It is now known as the St. Clair College Skilled Trades Regional Training Centre which will provide students with hands-on training to fill the skilled traded gap.
There are two programs run out of the centre which includes some classroom work and on-the-floor training with high-tech machines.
Students receive a certificate from the Canadian Tooling and Machine Association when they graduate.
After the program, the students would continue into the apprenticeship program at the college.
"I'm hopeful that not only will we continue what we are doing here that we can have an opportunity to expand some of that work integrated learning into some of the other skilled trades and engineering programs we have," says College President Patti France.
Centre General Manager Mike Ouellette says it's important to train young people to compete in the world market.
"It is real work training and this is exactly what industry is looking for and when these students are done this program, they are going from this place to their shops doing what is required and helping industry."
St. Clair College hopes to bring in the first group of students into the centre under the college banner in March.
110 people went through the centre in 2016.
