The Windsor Sptifres get a win on Mickey Renaud night at the WFCU Centre, skating to a 3-1 victory over the Guelph Storm.
Three goals in the third period from Jeremiah Addison, Mikhail Sergachev and Luke Boka secured the come from behind win. The Storm had scored in the second period to take a 1-0 lead into the third period.
Spits goaltender Michael DiPietro says it's special to get the win for Renaud.
"Mickey was a great captain, he's always going to be our captain. It's something special. Last year we didn't get the job done, but this year we made a statement, 'We had to get these two points,'" says DiPietro. "Not only for us, but for him and his family that are here."
The former Spitfires captain died at just 19 years old after suddenly collapsing at his home in Tecumseh. The tradition remembers Renaud's life and legacy with his parents, Mark and Jane in attendance for the pregame ceremony.
The Spitfires threw a lot of pucks at the net to try and get the win, outshooting the Storm 31 to 16.
DiPietro made 15 saves for the win.
