The Windsor Spitfires have chosen a goalie with the 30th pick of the 2018 CHL Import Draft.
Goalie Kari Piiroinen is from Finland where he played last season with the HIFK U-18s.
In 27 games, he posted a 2.73 goals against average and a .912 save percentage before an impressive 1.00 goals against and .957 save percentage in five playoff games.
Piiroinen, who turns 17 on Sunday (1st), represented Finland at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in British Columbia.
“Kari is the best 2001-born goalie in Finland,” says Spits General Manager, Warren Rychel. “He has excellent size and is extremely athletic. He gives us depth behind Mikey (DiPietro) and will be a Spitfire for years to come.”
Piiroinen will be eligible for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver.
