The Windsor Spitfires handled the North Bay Battalion in convincing fashion in a 5-2 win at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.
Windsor has back-to-back wins after downing North Bay and a shootout win over Kingston last Sunday.
Thomas Stevenson started things off for the Spitfires with a goal six minutes into first with the Battalion answering only once before Cole Purboo, potted his sixth goal of the season to put the Spits ahead 2-1.
Purboo netted his second of the night on a powerplay goal late in the period to put the Spits ahead and they never looked back. The winger added 3-assists for 5-points, a first in his young career.
"I got a lot of good bounces today, I felt like everything was going good," Purboo says. "I had a good week of practice with the guys and it showed today."
Matthew MacDougall added two-more for the Spits — he tells AM800 News with three tough-games coming up — it was a big win.
"Gives us some confidence to play how we normally play and just keep pushing," says MacDougall. "We made sure that we came out fast right at the beginning and got our feet going and under us."
Head Coach Trevor Letowski was happy with the overall result, but says there's still things to work on, goalie Michael DiPietro made sure North Bay didn't climb back into the game.
"I thought we started pretty well, we got better as the game went along and our second period was really good. We just couldn't convert, I thought we really could have spread the score out, North Bay stuck around," says Letowski. "I didn't love the third period, we took some penalties, they were really pushing us, thats where Mikey came in and really held the fort for us."
DiPietro turned away 31 of the 33 shots he faced on the night.
The Spitfires take on the Oshawa Generals at the WFCU Centre Saturday at 7:05pm. Tune into AM800 for all the action.
