The Windsor Spitfires snapped a five game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Sarnia Sting in OHL action at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.
Every game counts for the Spitfires as they try to pull away from the Erie Otters for the eighth and final playoff spot and potentially catch-up with Sarnia for seventh place in the Western Conference.
Windsor's Chris Playfair beat Sarnia goaltender Cameron Lamour to open the scoring midway through the first period to send the Spitfires into the dressing room with a 1-0 lead.
Nathan Staios tallied what would wind up being the game winner to open the second period with Cole Purboo added an insurance marker just two-minutes later.
Colton Incze would surrender the Sting's lone goal minutes later before shutting the door for the Spitfires from there, stopping 17 of the 18 shots he faced on the way to a 3-1 final.
Windsor is now three points behind Sarnia and three points up on Erie in the playoff race.
The Spitfires head to Sarnia for the second game of a home and home series Friday night — puck drops at 7:05pm.
