The Spitfires have come to terms with their top pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Goaltender Kari Piiroinen was taken 30th overall in the June selection.
General manager Warren Rychel calls Piiroinen the "best goaltender in Finland in his age group."
"He's a great addition to our team," says Rychel. "He'll provide us depth behind Mikey (Michael DiPietro) in the immediate future. We're confident he will grow into a premier starter in our league."
The Helsinki native played in 27 games with HIFK U-18s last season, posting a 2.73 goal-against average and a .912 save percentage. In five playoff games, his goals-against average was 1.00 along with a .957 save percentage.
Piiroinen also represented Finland at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in British Columbia.
