The Windsor Spitfires' season opener at the WFCU Centre is quickly approaching.
Right winger Cole Purboo is heading into his third year with the team and says there's a good mix of newcomers and veterans this time around.
The Spitfires went 4-1 in the pre-season and continue to prepare for opening night.
Purboo says the team is itching to hit the ice.
"It's been good. A lot of competition between the guys in camp and everyone is excited to get going. It's been a long few weeks. It's going to be nice to play a lot of meaningful games in the next few weeks and get back into the cycle of everything."
He says it's going to be an exciting year.
"We have a lot of young, skilled guys to be excited about and a lot of older guys that are giving them a lot insight because we have a young defence core. So everybody is helping out everybody and I think we're going to be really good."
Purboo he's ready to step into a leadership role this season.
"I want to be a role model for the guys and hopefully be a leader for the team and I'm going to try and do my best to do so. I've maybe got a little less nerves because I've been here a couple years already. Just as excited though. I'm always excited to get a new season going."
Windsor kicks off the 2018-19 campaign at home Thursday night against the Guelph Storm.
