It's a 4-3 win for the Windsor Spitfires over the Flint Firebirds to open the OHL Showcase in Buffalo.
Chris Playfair led the way with two goals and an assist.
He feels a win is important for the younger players on the team.
"I think for sure, especially for the new guys — the guys who it's their first year playing in the league," says Playfair. "I think it's good to get that experience, get that first win out of the way and keep going the rest of the weekend."
Head Coach Trevor Letowski liked what he saw in the win over the Firebirds.
"We as a staff were happy with the effort," says Letowski. "Things are moving fast here in training camp and we're giving these kids a lot of information, so you just don't know — especially first time out — how they're going to respond."
Letowski adds he's happy with how his team responded to the challenge Flint presented.
"Flint dressed a pretty good lineup and we had a lot of young kids in our lineup tonight and we played fast, I think we outworked them and we got rewarded for it," says Letowski. "It's a good start for our guys and hopefully we can start to build on that."
Joseph Mizzi had a goal and two assists while Igor Larionov scored the eventual game-winner for the Spits.
Brock Baier made 37 saves in the Windsor net.
