The Windsor Spitfires walked away with one point in their quest to control their Playoff destiny — losing 4-3 in a shootout to the Sting in Sarnia in OHL action Friday night.
Sarnia got to Windsor goaltender Kari Piiroinen early and often scoring three unanswered goals over the first two periods, but the Spitfires came out of the dressing room ready to fight for their season in the Third frame.
Jean-Luc Foudy found another gear just two minutes into the period, sweeping in off the wing on a partial breakaway to pull Windsor back within two.
Connor Corcoran played give and go with Curtis Douglas on the powerplay five minutes later, cutting in from the left boards to tuck his 10th of the year over the shoulder of Ethan Langevin to make it 3-2.
Foudy would continue to shine for the Spitfires; this time depositing a Luke Boka feed past Langevin on a penalty kill to tie things up 3-3.
Both teams exchanged scoring chances in overtime, but it would take a shoot out to decide who would come out on top.
Langevin shut the door on Windsor, while Hugo Leufvenius and Franco Sproviero beat Piiroinen to secure a 4-3 win and a seventh place finish for the Sting.
The Guelph Storm helped the Spitfires clinch the eighth and final playoff Spot in the OHL's Western Conference with a 5-2 win over the Erie Otters Friday night.
Windsor will face off against either the London Knights or Saginaw Spirit in the first round of the 2019 OHL Playoffs — both teams still have games remaining.
The regular season concludes Sunday.
