It's clean out day for members of the Windsor Spitfires.
Their season ended Thursday night after losing four games straight to the London Knights.
For overagers Sean Allen and Chase Campbell, their OHL careers are over.
Campbell tells AM800 Sports the fact his junior hockey career is over, is starting to sink in.
"I think it kind of hit me pretty good, right after the game," says Campbell. "I mean five years is a long time, but it's the blink of an eye and five years goes by pretty quick, especially in junior, best time of your life."
The 20-year-old Campbell is one of the few players who played for five different OHL teams in five seasons — in Sarnia, Ottawa, Owen Sound, Kitchener and Windsor.
The Waterloo native joined the Spitfires midway through this season, and he couldn't be more thankful to join what he calls an excellent organization.
"Unbelievable building, great dressing room, the staff is great, everywhere from the coaches up to management, the trainers, I got treated very very well here and I think they do it the right way"he says. "The fans are good and this team is a team I will never forget, really young team but oh man, were we close."
The Spitfires finished 8th in the Western Conference with a record of 23-33-5-5 in the regular season, before being swept by London in four straight.
But Campbell says the future looks bright in Windsor.
"A lot of young talent, I think the fans should be really excited for the next few years because I think you are going to see a Memorial Cup team coming soon," says Campbell. "You look at Foudy and Cuylle, two 16-year-olds who were dominant this year and my goodness, as 17-year-olds they could be superstars in this league, so I will definitely be watching."
The Spitfires can have 18 of their 20 players return for next season.
Windsor will also add players in the CHL Import Draft as well as the OHL Priority Selection, which is scheduled for April 6th.
