Ontario Provincial Police officers had to use a spike belt to stop a vehicle in a dangerous driving case.
Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, an officer with the Leamington detachment saw a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Coronation Avenue and Erie Street South.
According to police, the officer tried to stop the vehicle but the lone male occupant ignored the emergency lights and began weaving side-to-side, failing to stop at stop signs.
Police say the driver also braked abruptly and pulled into a business parking lot, before going back on the roadway and continuing on in the area of Oak Street West.
That's when additional officers were called to assist.
Police say the driver then continued towards Kingsville, with attempts to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Road 3 and Union Avenue, unsuccessful.
The vehicle was then seen driving in the oncoming lane and according to the OPP, left the roadway at one point, lost control of the vehicle and struck the side of a marked OPP cruiser before getting back on road.
Police then set up the spike bike at the intersection of Graham Side road and Road 2 East, successfully deflating the vehicles tires, putting the driver under arrest.
A 62-year-old man from Kingsville is charged with Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Police say there were no injuries reported.
