Environment Canada is expecting a fairly quiet weekend weather wise to ring in the new year.
Meteorologist Mark Schuster says there is a chance for some overnight flurries tonight and tomorrow but the amount will not be significant.
He says rain is also in the forecast and the temperature will be slightly above normal.
Schuster says some rain is expected tomorrow afternoon before celebrations begin.
"Heading into the evening so for people celebrating New Year's Eve it looks like conditions should be fairly calm as well maybe a chance of some showers or flurry activity and heading into New Year's Day looks pretty calm, no major weather systems and a high of about plus two," says Schuster.
The average temperature for this time of year is a high of minus one.
Schuster says the area could see a significant amount of rain for parts of Monday and early Tuesday.
