WINDSOR — The response to the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at Windsor Regional Hospital has been 'smooth and calm.'
The centre next to the emergency room at the Ouellette Campus opened its doors to the public Monday morning at 9 and about 10-12 people were waiting in line.
"I think people have heard the message to not rush down to this assessment centre if you are asymptomatic, if you are showing no symptoms, you don't have to have any concerns about your travel history or being exposed to someone who may have," says hospital spokesperson Steve Erwin.
Erwin says the centre is designed for people with symptoms.
"What we really want to do is focus this assessment centre on those individuals who meet the criteria of concern, high fever, cough, recent travel history concerns," he says.
He points out just because someone shows up at the centre, he or she is not guaranteed a test.
There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor.
