The City of Windsor is reminding everyone that smoking is now banned from all recreational facilities, private and public, across Ontario.
The province has changed the Smoke Free Ontario Act to ban smoking on recreational properties or within 20 metres of the perimeter of those properties.
A release from the city states the new provincial legislation takes precedence over a city by-law that allowed for smoking in designated locations around recreation centres, and as a result, there will no longer be designated smoking areas available around any Windsor recreation facility.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit carries out enforcement of smoke free legislation locally.
