Six months and counting for striking Essex County library workers.
CUPE Local 2974 spokesperson Lori Wightman says Christmas Day was the six-month mark for the strike.
She says her members never thought the strike would last this long but are still very determined and spirits are still high.
Wightman says her members return to the picket lines this morning.
"We're still very determined, spirits are still high. I think we're taking a couple of days to just be with our family over Christmas so I think that will rejuvenate us a bit and we'll be back at it again on Wednesday," says Wightman.
She says no new talks are planned.
"We're hoping to go back to the table. It's a new year so let's start new and fresh and get back to the table work out a compromise that's going to be beneficial for everybody," says Wightman.
The 58 full and part-time workers walked off the job on June 25th to back contract demands.
The workers rejected the board's "final offer" earlier this month.
The Essex County Library Board plans to begin opening some branches on a rotating basis early in the new year.
The key issue in the dispute remains third party insurance coverage for short-term disability.
