For the first time in history, the number of Canadians 65 and older out-numbers children 14 and under.
Statistics Canada has released the latest batch of information from last year's census and it shows a 20% jump in the number of residents 65 and up.
In Windsor-Essex, the population is slightly above the national average of 16.9%, with 17.2% listed as 65 years of age and older.
As for those 14 years of age and younger, 16.7% of the population in Windsor-Essex falls into that category, slightly above the national average of 16.6%
Amherstburg is home to one of the highest proportion of seniors with 1 out of 5 residents 65 or over.
Detached single-family homes remain the most common dwelling type in Canada, representing 53.6% in 2016. In Windsor-Essex, 68.4% live in a single family dwelling.
