The search is on to find a new police chief in Windsor.
The contract for current Chief Al Frederick expires at the end of June, 2019.
Speaking on AM800's the Morning Drive, Mayor Drew Dilkens says the recruitment process is well underway and he's pleased with the amount of interest and applications for the job.
"I expect we should be able to meet the timeline of having our new city police chief in place prior to the current chief retiring," says Dilkens.
Chief Frederick was originally set to retire at the end of January 2018, but he postponed it to give the board an easier transition to take over policing in Amherstburg.
Dilkens says there have been some viable candidates for the post.
"We really did a Canada wide search in the effort to try and find and attract the best chief to this community," says Dilkens.
He won't reveal whether the board is leaning toward a candidate within the organization or outside.
Chief Al Frederick has been a police officer for close to 35 years, the last 6.5 years as chief.
